Privacy
Your data, in plain terms.
This is our privacy policy. It covers what My Energy Agent collects, why, where it is stored, how long it is kept, who else ever sees it and what you can ask us to do with it.
Effective 16 September 2026.
Who is responsible for your data
My Energy Agent is a registered business name of The Trustee for Rowe Digital Trust, ABN 13 313 912 737, based in Queensland, Australia. That entity is the one that holds your data and answers for it. We handle personal information under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles. Our full business details are on the contact page.
The commitments the service is built on
The service is designed around the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 and these commitments. They are architectural, not just policy: the systems are built so that the alternatives are not possible.
- Collect only what is needed
- An email address for your report, and whichever of an address, bills or interval data you choose to give us. No phone number. No date of birth.
- Mask before any model
- Names, meter numbers (NMI) and account numbers are removed from bills before an AI model reads them. Only the last three digits of the NMI are kept, to match bills to each other.
- Stay in Australia
- Storage in AWS Sydney. AI inference through Amazon Bedrock’s Australia profile, which runs only in Sydney and Melbourne. Regions outside Australia are blocked at the account level for anything that holds personal data.
- Don’t keep it
- Bills and usage data are kept for the life of your subscription (the forecast is scored against each new bill) and deleted 30 days after it ends. A “delete my bills now” button does it sooner. The derived household profile is what we keep while you are a subscriber.
- Never sell, never share with retailers
- Your data is used only to produce your reports and, only if you opt in, to improve bill reading using anonymised extracts. It is never sold, and never shared with retailers.
- Access, export and delete
- Your profile screen is your record and you can correct it. An export gives you everything we hold. One-click deletion removes bills, data, profile, results and reports within 24 hours; payment records stay only as long as tax law requires.
- No model training on your bills
- The AI models we use do not train on customer data. Our own opt-in improvement work uses anonymised extraction pairs only.
Paying us
Payments are handled by Stripe. Your card details go from your browser straight to Stripe and never reach our servers: we cannot see your full card number, and we could not store it if we wanted to. What we keep is the record of what you bought, what you paid and Stripe’s identifiers for the customer and the subscription, which is what lets you cancel and lets us issue a refund.
What we send Stripe is what a payment needs: your email address, the amount, and an internal reference for the purchase. Your bills, your usage, your meter data and your report never go to Stripe. Stripe is a global payment processor and handles that payment data under its own privacy policy, which includes processing outside Australia. Payment and tax records are kept for five years because tax law requires it, and deleting your account does not delete them.
Who else ever sees your data
We use a small number of suppliers to run the service, and each one gets only what it needs to do its job:
- Amazon Web Services stores everything, in the Sydney region. Australian data centres, encrypted at rest.
- Amazon Bedrock runs the AI models that read bills and write your report, on an Australian profile that stays in Sydney and Melbourne. Regions outside Australia are blocked at the account level.
- Stripe takes the payment, as described above.
- Amazon Simple Email Service sends your report and the emails you have asked for, from the same Sydney region.
That is the whole list. We do not use advertising networks, data brokers or lead generators, and we never sell your data or share it with an energy retailer. The only other case where we would hand anything over is a law that compels us to, and we would tell you unless we were forbidden to.
If you joined the wait list
Before My Energy Agent opened we kept a wait list. It is closed now. If you joined it, we hold your email address, and if you gave them, your postcode and how you said you would like to start, with the page you signed up from and the time. It is stored in AWS’s Sydney region and is not shared with, sold to or seen by any retailer or marketing company. We use it for one email to say the service is open, and then the list is deleted. Email hello@myenergyagent.au to be removed sooner.
Cookies and tracking
This site sets no advertising or analytics cookies, loads no third-party trackers, and has no Facebook pixel, no Google Analytics and no session recording. The only cookies are the ones that keep you signed in to your own report while you are reading it, and they are needed for the service to work at all. There is nothing here to opt out of.
The links from your report to a retailer, or to the regulator’s Energy Made Easy site, are plain links. They carry the plan’s public id and, for Energy Made Easy, your postcode, because its page needs both to show you that plan’s prices. Nothing is added for tracking, no retailer pays us for a click, and the link does not tell them where you came from.
Access, correction and complaints
You can ask us at any time what we hold about you, ask for a copy of it, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email hello@myenergyagent.au from the address you signed up with. We answer within one business day and act on the request within 30 days, and we do not charge for it.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, write to the same address and say so; we will look at it properly and tell you what we have done. If you are still not satisfied, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner, which regulates privacy in Australia.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy in a way that materially affects you, we will email everyone it affects before it takes effect. Smaller changes are published here with a new effective date at the top of the page.
Contact
Questions, corrections, deletion requests and privacy complaints all go to hello@myenergyagent.au. It is the only address we publish. Our terms of service and refunds and cancellations policy cover the rest of the agreement.
